“Deeply listening to music opens up new avenues of research I’d never even dreamed of. I feel from now on music should be an essential part of every analysis.”
In this seminar, we will present and discuss the power of music and its impact on the body and the psyche. We will listen deeply to a variety of genres, allowing participants to experience the evocative power of music to awaken insight and healing. There will be opportunities for listening to selected music meant to open up the inner realms of the psyche.
Music, beyond being an art form we all know and enjoy, can also act as a key that opens the door to deeper levels of being. Music stimulates the imagination, opens the senses, awakens emotions, and reflects stories that lie within us. Such explorations may harmonize body, mind, and soul, restoring well-being and wholeness. Music is a powerful force that, since ancient times, has been used to heal both body and soul. In many cultures, it has functioned as a connector between the human and divine worlds.
Late in life, Carl Jung recognized the importance of music, its relationship to the psyche, and how it could be implemented in his work with analysands. In a meeting with music therapist Margaret Tilly, he said “this [music] reaches the deep archetypal material that we can only sometimes reach in our analytical work with patients. This is most remarkable!”
Can’t make it live? No problem all webinars will be recorded.
“ Music is often the only language which can find those banished to the nameless interior of illness. It calls out to the buried knowing in them, its rhythmic, lyrical warmth eventually freeing their frozen rhythm.”
